The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame will finally have its counterpart come 2010, The National Museum of Hip Hop. A red carpet gala will be held by the NMoH April 6, 2010 at the M2 Ultra Lounge, located on 530 West 28th Street in Manhattan. The “invitation only” celebrity benefit, that is sure to be a monumental display of Hip-Hop brilliance, will be hosted by legends Chuck D and KRS One. Among the long list of stars and rap icons attending are MC Lyte, Kurtis Blow, Ice T, Akon, Redman, Kid Capri, Ralph Mcdaniels, Ja Rule, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Black Sheep, Cold Crush Brothers, Rock Steady Crew, Dana Dane, Nice -n- Smooth, DJ Red Alert, Furious Five, Brand Nubian, Bones Thugs -N-Harmony, The Roots, Pete Rock, D Nice, Marley Marl, N.O.R.E., Kid –n- Play, Roxanne Shante, Melly Mel, and many more.  

Upon its construction the museum aims not only to preserve and present the evolution of Hip Hop to the public, but also act as a community center to those in the surrounding Brooklyn area. Offering career training programs for the homeless, free youth courses in politics, programs for substance abusers, and unemployment resources, the museum plans to enrich the lives of Brooklyn residents. The NMoH board, established in 2005, anticipates that the 100,000 sq. foot museum in NYC will boost the economy with its political proactively and community services. Board Members Russell Simmons, Dr. Ben Chavis, Andre Harrell, Leyla Turkkan, Bill Adler, Bob Santelli and Terry Stewart intend to enhance the greater community through the programs offered at the museum.

LIL WAYNES SENTENCING DELAYED

According to the Associated Press, a Manhattan Judge pushed back Rap Star lil Wayne sentencing date to March 2^nd because the rapper needs to have dental surgery before going to jail.   

lil Wayne appeared in an Manhattan Courtroom Tuesday Feb. 9^th with his lawyer and father figure Birdman by his side as his lawyer asked the Judge that the hearing be postponed so that lil Wayne can have surgery on his $150,000.00 grill.  His plea deal calls for a one-year term in a city jail, though good behavior could shave that to about eight months. 

Defense lawyer Stacey Richman said Lil Wayne was headed home to Miami for dental work Friday. She declined to specify his malady. 

"It is a medical situation that, like (it would for) any of us, has to be addressed," she said outside court. 

She said the rapper had planned to take care of it before Tuesday but his dentist had been out of the country doing charitable work.

Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon didn't fight the rapper's request to push back his sentencing, saying she had spoken to the dentist. 

lil Wayne, 27, pleaded guilty in October to a charge of attempted criminal possession of a weapon, admitting he illegally had a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus in July 2007. Police found the weapon when they stopped the bus after a Manhattan concert.

OSCAR WINNING ACTOR LOUIS GOSSETT JR DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER

Oscar Award winning actor Louis Gossett Jr. made an announcement Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was fortunate enough to catch it in the early stage and is expected to make a full recovery. 

The 73-year-old actor decided to go public about his fight with the disease because there is not enough emphasis in the African-American community on fighting it with preventive examinations and early treatment. 

Gossett, who is black, has appeared in dozens of films. He won an Oscar for best supporting actor in 1983 for his portrayal of the no-nonsense Navy flight school sergeant who whips Richard Gere into shape in “An Officer and a Gentleman.” 

His memoir, “An Actor and a Gentleman,” is scheduled to be published this year.

Codeblack Entertainment CEO Jeff Clanagan announced today that “Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy,” the groundbreaking film examining the history and cultural influence of American black comedy, has been acquired by Showtime and will premiere air throughout Black History Month.  

Directed by noted actor-producer-director Robert Townsend (“Hollywood Shuffle”), the documentary, which originally screened at Sundance in 2009 in the Premiere section, features interviews with prominent scholars, politicians, cultural critics, and a host of notable comics, including Bill Cosby, Chris Rock, Keenan Ivory Wayans, Steve Harvey, and Katt Williams and many more…

It’s Grammy Time

The 52^nd Annual Grammy Awards is the award show that everybody is looking forward to.  All eyes will be glued to the TV Sunday, January 31^st as we watch Lady Gaga kick off the show with a talked about performance and it is rumored that Sir Elton John will join her. 

The Grammy’s is going to be blazin with performances by Taylor Swift, Mary J. Blige, Beyonce,  Eminem, Drake, Lil Wayne, and the cast of the musical “American Idiot” appearing with Green Day, and Maxwell. 

Don’t forget your 3D glasses; you’re going to need them for a special tribute to Michael Jackson featuring “Avatar” like 3-D footage.

Radio Personality Donnie Simpson Signing Off

The green eyed, smooth talkin Donnie Simpson has hung up his mic at WPGC Radio station Friday due to declining ratings, and “internal friction between Donnie and WPGC’s management”, Simpson decided to break his contract and separate himself from the radio station, according to reports. 

For the past few months, Donnie made attempts to revamp his radio show from his smooth groove show to more of a hip hop, DJ spinning show that he’s clearly not into. 

The morning show ended very emotional for Donnie as he received phone calls from his fans, family and friends, Toni Braxton, Blair Underwood and Tavis Smiley also called in to say their farewells as well. 

For more than 30 years people enjoyed watching Donnie Simpson with co-host Rachel on BET’s Video Soul.

Ivan Velez Writer/Director/Producer

Meet Ivan Velez!  

Ivan Velez is an up and coming Writer, Director, and Producer born and raised in NY thats taking the Spanish community by storm with his unique eye in the movie production field.    

Ivan fell in love with performing on stage in the early 90’s which quickly turned to passion for being behind the cameras and writing while attending the School of Visual Arts in NY.  Currently with several movie and music video production under his belt, let alone his love for writing, Ivan Velez is the new face to blockbuster movie productions and much more. 

Bigmouthz.com was able to snatch Ivan away from his busy schedule to have a one on one about where he’s from and where he’s going.  In the interview, Ivan spoke highly about being born to parents of Puerto Rican decent and how he enjoyed life growing up between Brooklyn, NY and Puerto Rico.  Ivan also gave us an insight about his journey to where he is today; from rejections to some of the most influencing projects he worked on to date.
